About Items

An item is any type of object—other than a person—that exists in Oracle WebCenter Interaction or Oracle WebCenter Collaboration. Items that appear in your search results can range from portal-specific objects like communities, groups, and Knowledge Directory folders to Oracle WebCenter Collaboration-specific objects such as tasks, announcements, and discussion messages. Oracle WebCenter Collaboration must be integrated with the Oracle WebCenter Interaction in order for Oracle WebCenter Collaboration items to appear in your search results.

An item can also be a document that has been submitted to the Knowledge Directory using the Tagging Engine. For more information, see Submitting Documents and Web Pages.

Your administrator specifies the defaults for the types of items that appear in your search results. You can change these defaults on the Tagging Engine Preferences page.
