Edit Task

To learn about tasks, refer to About Tasks.

To create or edit a task:

  1. In the Name text box, type no more than 100 characters to name the task.
  2. In the Description text box, you can optionally type no more than 1,000 characters to describe the task. The description appears in Task Details.
  3. In the Start Date text box, type the date, in m/d/yy format, when you want this task to begin.
  4. In the Due Date text box, type the date, in m/d/yy format, when you want this task to end.
  5. If this task has prerequisite tasks, the prerequisites are displayed next to Dependent on tasks . The start date of this task becomes dependent on the end date of the dependent tasks. Therefore, if the end date of the dependent task changes, both the start and due date of this task will change by the corresponding amount.
  6. If you want to identify this task as a milestone, which is a single date of an important occurrence or turning point related to a project, check the box next to This task is a milestone.
  7. If you want this task to display in the calendar, check the box next to Display in Calendar.
  8. In the Status drop-down list, you can optionally select the percentage to indicate what portion of the task is completed. You can also select the risk indicator that best represents the status of the task: No Risk no risk, Moderate Risk moderate risk, or High Risk high risk.
  9. If you want users to receive e-mail notification when new tasks are assigned to them, or on the date when the task is scheduled to start or end, next to Notification, check the appropriate boxes. The notification options do not display for tasks in personal projects.
  10. When you are done, click Finish.
