Project Discussions
A discussion provides a virtual
forum where project users can hold online conversations on subjects of
interest. A discussion is made up of an initial message followed by replies
to that message (including replies to replies).

Project Discussions displays the following information about each discussion:

Description |
Discussion Name |
The name of the discussion. The discussion icons indicate the discussion format:
indicates an open discussion, in which you can create new messages or reply to existing messages.
indicates a moderated discussion, in which a moderator can approve or reject messages
Note: Unapproved messages display only in the details of a discussion, in Messages. Rejected messages do not display in the discussion at all.
indicates a closed discussion, in which you can no longer create new messages or reply to existing messages.

The name of the user who started the discussion. |
Messages |
The number of messages posted in the discussion. |
Date Modified |
The date of the last posted message in the discussion. |
Discussion Status |
The discussion is either open or closed. You can change the status of a message on the Edit Discussion page |
Depending on your permissions, you can perform the following actions in Project Discussions:

To create a new discussion, click New Discussion and complete the New Discussion page.

To view the details and messages for a discussion, click its name. This displays Discussion Details and Messages.
- To edit the properties of an existing discussion, click its name; then, on the details page, click Edit and complete the Edit Discussion page.
- To receive e-mail notification when project discussions are created or edited, click Subscribe. If you are already subscribed to project discussions and you want to stop receiving notification, click Unsubscribe. If the Subscribe link is not enabled, you need to set your e-mail address in your user profile.
- You can sort the discussions in ascending or descending alphabetical order by Discussion Name, Messages, or Date Modified. To sort in ascending alphabetical order, click the column title by which you want to sort. To switch to descending alphabetical order, click the column title again. The icon to the left of the column title indicates the sort order: ascending (
) or descending (

Discussion Details
Discussion Details displays the following information about the discussion:

The number of messages posted in this discussion. |
Replies |
The number of replies to messages in this discussion. |
Moderated By |
If this discussion is moderated, the names of the moderators. |
Discussion Status |
The discussion is either open or closed. You can change the status on the Edit Discussion page. |
Depending on your permissions, you can perform the following actions in Discussion Details:
- To change the name, description, status, or resolution of the discussion, click Edit. This displays the Edit Discussion page.
- To permanently remove this discussion from the project, click Delete.
- To receive e-mail notification when this discussion is edited or new messages or replies are added, click Subscribe. If you are already subscribed to this discussion and you want to stop receiving notification, click Unsubscribe. If the Subscribe link is not enabled, you need to set your e-mail address in your user profile. You cannot subscribe to closed discussions.
- To send an e-mail inviting other users to view or subscribe to this discussion, click Notify. This displays the Send Notification page. You cannot send notifications for closed discussions.
- To return to Project Discussions, in the Discussion Message Path, click Discussions.

Messages
Messages displays the following information about each message:
- Subject: The name of the initial message.
- Created By: The name of the user who posted the initial message.
- Replies: The number of replies to the initial message.
- Date Modified: The date of the initial message was posted or edited or the date of the last reply.
Depending on your permissions, you can perform the following actions in Messages:

To create a new message on a different subject, click New Message and complete the Start New Message page. You cannot create new messages in closed discussions.

To view a message and its replies, to subscribe or unsubscribe from a message, or to edit, delete or reply to a message, click its name. This displays Messages in Post.
- You can sort the discussions in ascending or descending alphabetical order by Discussion Name, Messages, or Date Modified. To sort in ascending alphabetical order, click the column title by which you want to sort. To switch to descending alphabetical order, click the column title again. The icon to the left of the column title indicates the sort order: ascending (

Messages in Post
Messages in Post displays the following information about each message and reply:
- The name of the message.
- The user who posted the message.
- The date the message was posted or last edited.
- The text of the message.
Depending on your permissions, you can perform the following actions in Messages in Post:
- To receive e-mail notification when this message is edited or replied to, click Subscribe. If you are already subscribed to this message and you want to stop receiving notification, click Unsubscribe. If the Subscribe link is not enabled, you need to set your e-mail address in your user profile. You cannot subscribe to messages in closed discussions.
- To edit the properties of an existing message, click
and complete the Edit Message page. You cannot edit messages in closed discussions.
- To permanently delete a message, click
. You cannot delete messages in closed discussions.
- If you are a moderator, you can approve unapproved messages by clicking
.
- To reply to a message, click
and complete the Reply to Message page. You cannot reply to messages in closed discussions.
- To return to Project Discussions, in the Discussion Message Path, click Discussions.
- To return to Discussion Details, in the Discussion Message path, click the name of the discussion.
